Quick answer

Paul is sending Timothy to remind them of the gospel ways he teaches in every church. It matters because consistent apostolic teaching anchors the church against drift.

Overview

To reinforce his appeal, Paul sends Timothy, his faithful spiritual son, who will recall to them Paul's 'ways in Christ.' Notably, these ways are the same Paul teaches 'everywhere in every assembly'—the gospel and its life are uniform across the churches, not a Corinthian specialty. This consistency guards against the factionalism and novelty plaguing them.
