Overview
After the priests, Levites, and musicians, the Chronicler turns to the gatekeepers, who guarded the temple's entrances and oversaw access to the holy place. Though humble, this duty protected the sanctity of God's house (cf. Ps 84:10, where the psalmist would rather be a doorkeeper in God's house than dwell in tents of wickedness). Such service guarded what was holy, pointing to the greater reality that access to God is carefully ordered and, in Christ, graciously opened to His people.
