Quick answer

Neither silver nor gold can rescue anyone on the day of God's wrath, for the whole land will be consumed. It matters because it declares that wealth is powerless to save from judgment.

Overview

The 'fire of his jealousy' expresses God's zealous commitment to His holiness and His people's exclusive devotion. No bribe or treasure can buy escape from a righteous God. This points forward to the truth that redemption comes not with perishable things like silver or gold, but through the precious blood of Christ.
