Quick answer

Where Judah and Israel had been a byword of cursing, God will make them a blessing. He calls them to fearless faith as He reverses their reputation.

Overview

Once an example of God's judgment among the nations, the people will become a channel of blessing, echoing the promise to Abraham (Genesis 12:2-3). The twofold 'don't be afraid' and 'let your hands be strong' grounds courage in God's saving purpose. This anticipates how, through Christ the seed of Abraham, blessing flows to all nations (Galatians 3:14).

Christ at the center

The Branch who is both priest and king, the shepherd struck and the flock scattered, the king coming humble on a donkey, the one they pierced, the fountain opened for sin — Zechariah is dense with Christ.

How Zechariah 8:13 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
