Quick answer
The LORD will be King over all the earth; in that day He will be one, and His name one. It matters because it promises the universal reign and undivided worship of the one true God.
Overview
This is a high point of the prophecy: Yahweh's kingship extends over the whole earth, and His oneness is openly acknowledged everywhere—'Yahweh will be one, and his name one.' The exclusive worship confessed in Israel's Shema (Deut. 6:4) becomes the worship of all nations. This anticipates the consummated kingdom where Christ reigns and 'God may be all in all' (1 Cor. 15:28; Phil. 2:10-11).
