Quick answer

The beloved, with friends nearby, asks to hear the bride's voice. Love delights to hear the voice of the one it cherishes.

Overview

As the book draws to a close, the beloved longs simply to hear his bride speak, prizing her voice (cf. 2:14). The desire to hear the beloved expresses the intimacy and attentiveness of true love. This longing to hear the beloved's voice echoes the way Scripture pictures the Lord delighting in the prayers and praise of his people.
