Quick answer

The sixth seal brings a great earthquake and the darkening of sun and moon. Cosmic upheaval signals the approach of God's final judgment.

Overview

These signs echo Old Testament 'day of the Lord' prophecies (Joel 2, Isaiah 13) where creation convulses at God's coming. Jesus used similar imagery for the end (Matthew 24). The shaking of the heavens and earth dramatizes that the entire created order trembles before the Judge.

Christ at the center

Revelation ends the story with the slain-yet-standing Lamb who is worthy, the Lion of Judah, the Alpha and Omega, the returning King who makes all things new and dwells with his people forever.

How Revelation 6:12 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
