Quick answer

The city is a perfect cube of immense, equal dimensions. Its perfect symmetry signals it is the dwelling place of God's presence.

Overview

The cube shape recalls the Most Holy Place of the temple, which was likewise a perfect cube (1 Kings 6:20), where God's presence dwelt. This signals that the entire city is now God's sanctuary, his presence filling all of it. The vast dimensions symbolize a glorious dwelling spacious enough for all the redeemed; faithful interpreters take the measurements as symbolic rather than literal.
