Quick answer

A second angel announces that Babylon the great has fallen. The proud world-system opposed to God is certain to collapse under judgment.

Overview

'Babylon' symbolizes the seductive, God-defying world-order that intoxicates nations with immorality and idolatry (developed in chapters 17-18). Its fall is announced as already accomplished, so sure is God's judgment. Believers are thus assured that the glamorous power which entices and persecutes them is doomed.

Christ at the center

Revelation ends the story with the slain-yet-standing Lamb who is worthy, the Lion of Judah, the Alpha and Omega, the returning King who makes all things new and dwells with his people forever.

How Revelation 14:8 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
