Quick answer
His lips shout for joy and his redeemed soul sings praise, because God has rescued him.
Overview
Overflowing gladness is the fitting response of a soul God has redeemed. The psalmist's whole being, lips and soul, is engaged in joyful worship. This redemption language reaches its fullest meaning in Christ, who has purchased his people with his own blood and given them lasting cause for rejoicing (Ephesians 1:7).
