Quick answer

David affirms that salvation belongs to the Lord alone and asks blessing on God's people. Deliverance is God's gift, not human achievement.

Overview

The psalm closes by lifting David's personal rescue into a confession of truth: 'Salvation belongs to Yahweh.' He widens his prayer beyond himself to seek blessing on all God's people. This great refrain runs through Scripture to its climax in Christ, of whom the redeemed cry, 'Salvation belongs to our God' (Revelation 7:10).

Christ at the center

The Psalms are Christ's own prayer book and a gallery of his portraits — the suffering one of Psalm 22, the risen Lord of Psalm 16, the priest-king of Psalm 110, the Son to whom the nations are given.

How Psalms 3:8 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
