Quick answer

He has seen that all earthly perfection has a limit, but God's commandments are boundless. The word's breadth surpasses every created excellence.

Overview

Closing the LAMED stanza, the psalmist contrasts the boundaries of all human and earthly perfection with the limitless scope of God's commandments. Everything in creation reaches an end, but the word of God is infinitely deep and wide. This points to the inexhaustible riches of God's truth, fully revealed in Christ in whom are hidden all treasures of wisdom (Col. 2:3; Rom. 11:33).

Christ at the center

The Psalms are Christ's own prayer book and a gallery of his portraits — the suffering one of Psalm 22, the risen Lord of Psalm 16, the priest-king of Psalm 110, the Son to whom the nations are given.

How Psalms 119:96 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
