Quick answer

The living will bless the Lord now and forevermore. It matters because praise is the fitting, enduring response of God's people.

Overview

In contrast to the silent dead, the worshiping community vows perpetual praise, closing the psalm with 'Praise Yah!' (Hallelujah). The 'forevermore' hints beyond present life toward eternal worship. In Christ that everlasting praise is secured, as the redeemed will bless God without end (Rev. 5:13).

Christ at the center

The Psalms are Christ's own prayer book and a gallery of his portraits — the suffering one of Psalm 22, the risen Lord of Psalm 16, the priest-king of Psalm 110, the Son to whom the nations are given.

How Psalms 115:18 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
