Quick answer

Know that the LORD is God, our Maker, and we are His people and sheep. We belong wholly to Him.

Overview

This verse grounds worship in the knowledge that the LORD alone is God, who made us and claims us as His own. The image of sheep and pasture expresses His care and our dependence. Jesus takes up this picture as the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep (John 10:11).

Christ at the center

The Psalms are Christ's own prayer book and a gallery of his portraits — the suffering one of Psalm 22, the risen Lord of Psalm 16, the priest-king of Psalm 110, the Son to whom the nations are given.

How Psalms 100:3 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
