Quick answer

Larger tribes receive larger inheritances and smaller tribes smaller ones, each according to its count.

Overview

The proportional distribution matched each tribe's portion to its number, a wise and equitable arrangement under God's direction. This care that everyone receives according to what is right anticipates the just reckoning of God, who gives to each according to His grace and faithful promise.

Christ at the center

In the wilderness Christ is the water from the rock, the bronze serpent lifted up that the dying might look and live (John 3:14), and the star and scepter that Balaam saw rising out of Jacob.
