Quick answer

From Bamoth they came to the valley in Moab near the top of Pisgah, overlooking the wasteland. Israel reached the heights from which the land could be viewed.

Overview

Pisgah is the ridge from which Moses would later view the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 34:1). Reaching this vantage point marks how near Israel now stands to their inheritance. The journey through the wilderness is nearly complete as they camp within sight of Canaan's edge.

Christ at the center

In the wilderness Christ is the water from the rock, the bronze serpent lifted up that the dying might look and live (John 3:14), and the star and scepter that Balaam saw rising out of Jacob.
