Quick answer

When the Son of Man comes in glory with all the angels, he will sit on his glorious throne. Christ returns as the King and Judge of all.

Overview

This scene of final judgment opens with Christ enthroned in divine glory, attended by angels. The once-humble Son of Man now appears as the sovereign King foretold in Daniel 7. His coming is the climax toward which the whole discourse has pointed. It assures believers of his ultimate triumph and warns all of coming accountability before him.

Christ at the center

Matthew presents Jesus as the promised King — son of David, son of Abraham — the new Moses and true Israel in whom every prophecy reaches 'that it might be fulfilled.'

How Matthew 25:31 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
