Quick answer
Pilate urges Jesus to answer the many charges, but he stays silent. Jesus' refusal to defend himself astonishes the governor.
Overview
Pilate, sensing the weakness of the case, presses Jesus to respond. Jesus' silence before his accusers fulfills Isaiah 53, where the servant is led as a lamb to slaughter without protest. His restraint shows his willing submission to the suffering appointed for him.
