Quick answer

Jesus promises that after his resurrection he will go ahead of them to Galilee. Restoration is assured even before they fail.

Overview

In the same breath that he foretells their scattering, Jesus speaks of being raised and regathering them in Galilee. The shepherd struck down will rise to lead his flock again. This word of grace, repeated by the angel at the empty tomb, assures that desertion will not be the end of their story.

Christ at the center

Mark drives urgently to the cross, showing Jesus the Son of God as the suffering Servant who 'came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'

How Mark 14:28 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
