Quick answer

Likewise, when they see these things, they will know it is near, right at the doors. The fulfillment is close and certain.

Overview

The signs Jesus described assure his followers that the predicted events stand at the very threshold. 'At the doors' conveys imminence and certainty. Applied first to Jerusalem's fall and ultimately to Christ's return, the call is to live in readiness, confident that what God has spoken will surely and soon come to pass in his appointed time.

Christ at the center

Mark drives urgently to the cross, showing Jesus the Son of God as the suffering Servant who 'came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.'

How Mark 13:29 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
