Quick answer

A demon-possessed man, naked and living among the tombs, meets Jesus as He comes ashore. His condition shows the dehumanizing ruin demons bring.

Overview

Luke describes a man long enslaved to demons, stripped of clothing, home, and dignity, dwelling among the dead. The portrait reveals the destructive aim of evil to degrade those made in God's image. Into this hopeless misery Jesus deliberately steps with delivering power.

Christ at the center

Luke shows Jesus the Savior for all — outsiders, the poor, the nations — the one who, on the Emmaus road, opened all the Scriptures to show they were about himself.

How Luke 8:27 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
