Quick answer

All the fat of the sin-offering bull is removed for the altar. As in other offerings, the choice fat is reserved for God.

Overview

Even in the sin offering, the fat covering the inner organs is taken off to be burned to God. This maintains the consistent principle that the richest portions belong to the LORD. The continuity with earlier offerings shows the unity of the sacrificial system, every part of which ultimately points to the comprehensive work of Christ for sin.

Christ at the center

Every sacrifice, every priest, and every day of atonement points beyond itself to the one perfect offering and the great High Priest who, by his own blood, makes the unclean holy once for all.

How Leviticus 4:8 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
