Quick answer
If many years remained until Jubilee, a proportionally larger redemption price was owed. The cost honestly reflected the time still owed.
Overview
This verse spells out the calculation: more remaining years meant more must be repaid out of the original purchase money. The system was equitable to both parties. It guarded against exploitation while honoring the legitimate interest of the one who had paid for the servant's labor.
