Quick answer

The Lord has fully poured out His fierce wrath, kindling a fire that consumed Zion to its foundations.

Overview

The poet attributes the destruction directly to God's accomplished judgment against sin. The fire devouring Zion's foundations signals total devastation. While this displays the reality of divine wrath, it also magnifies the grace of the cross, where that wrath against sin was poured out on Christ instead of His people (Rom. 5:9; 1 Thess. 5:9).
