Overview
The imagery of being cut off in a dungeon with a stone cast over recalls extreme distress, as in Jeremiah's own imprisonment in a cistern (Jer. 38:6). It pictures life sealed off as if in a grave. Such descent into a pit and the hope of deliverance foreshadow the burial and resurrection of Christ (Ps. 88:6).
