Quick answer
Jerusalem's defilement clung to her and she ignored her future, so her fall is staggering and comfortless. Her first direct cry to God begins her turn toward him.
Overview
Her sin is pictured as filth in her skirts, and her refusal to consider 'her latter end' (the consequences of her ways) brought astonishing ruin. Mid-verse the lament breaks into prayer: 'See, Yahweh, my affliction,' a first turning to the only true Comforter. Even in deserved judgment, the impulse to appeal to God shows the door of mercy is not shut.
