Overview
In rejecting Jesus, the chief priests utter a stunning betrayal of their own faith, for God alone was Israel's true King. To secure Jesus' death they pledge allegiance to a pagan emperor. This is the tragic low point of the trial: the covenant people disown their Messiah and embrace Caesar, exposing the spiritual blindness that the gospel comes to heal.
