Quick answer

God teaches us more than the animals and makes us wiser than the birds. Human dignity and wisdom are gifts from our Maker.

Overview

Continuing his portrait of God as Maker, Elihu notes that God endows humanity with understanding surpassing the beasts of the earth and birds of the sky. This reflects the unique image of God in man (Gen. 1:26-27). It reinforces the call to seek God, for the One who gave us reason and wisdom is the proper object of our trust, fully revealed in Christ, the wisdom of God.

Christ at the center

Job's cry for a mediator who can lay his hand on both God and man, and his confidence that 'my Redeemer lives' and will stand on the earth, reaches forward to Jesus the living Redeemer.

How Job 35:11 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
