Quick answer

God warns the wise, mighty, and rich not to boast in wisdom, strength, or wealth. Human achievements are no ground for confidence before Him.

Overview

Yahweh forbids glorying in the three great securities people trust—intellect, power, and money—none of which can save in the day of judgment. The verse dismantles every basis of self-reliance. By emptying human boasting it prepares the way for the only true boast in verse 24, and ultimately for boasting in the cross of Christ rather than in self.
