Quick answer

God forewarns Jeremiah that the people will neither listen nor answer when he speaks. Faithful ministry sometimes meets persistent rejection.

Overview

God prepares His prophet for a hard reception, knowing the people's hearts. Jeremiah is called to be faithful regardless of results. This sober commission reminds servants of God that obedience in proclamation, not visible success, is the measure of faithfulness, a pattern ultimately seen in Christ's own rejection.
