Overview
The voices of mirth and of the bridegroom and bride represent the ordinary celebrations of life, which God will bring to an end in judgment. That it happens in their own days stresses the nearness of the disaster. Strikingly, God later reverses this very imagery (Jeremiah 33:11), and the gospel culminates in the joyful marriage of the Lamb (Revelation 19:7).
