Quick answer

People are told to hide in the rocks from the terror of the LORD's majestic glory. The coming day of judgment will drive sinners to seek refuge in vain.

Overview

The imagery of fleeing into rocks and dust portrays dread before God's revealed majesty. No earthly hiding place can shield the proud from divine judgment. This anticipates the day when the unrepentant call on rocks to hide them from the wrath of God and the Lamb (Revelation 6:16).

Christ at the center

Isaiah sees him most clearly: the virgin's son Immanuel, the child on David's throne, the shoot from Jesse, the light to the nations, and above all the Suffering Servant pierced for our transgressions (ch. 53).

How Isaiah 2:10 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
