Quick answer
In that day the nations will seek the root of Jesse, who stands as a banner for all peoples. The Messiah draws Gentiles to himself.
Overview
The 'root of Jesse' — the Messiah — is raised as a signal banner gathering not only Israel but the nations. Paul quotes this verse in Romans 15:12 as proof that Christ came to bring the Gentiles to praise God. His 'resting place' is glorious, anticipating the worldwide reach of the gospel.
