Quick answer

The law made nothing perfect, but a better hope is introduced through which we draw near to God. Christ's priesthood brings the access to God the law could never provide.

Overview

The law could regulate worship but could not perfect worshipers or grant true nearness to God. In its place comes a 'better hope', the saving work of Christ, by which believers genuinely draw near to God. This drawing near, formerly barred by the veil, is now opened through our great high priest.

Christ at the center

Hebrews is sustained worship of Christ: better than angels, Moses, and the priests; the great High Priest after Melchizedek who by one sacrifice perfects forever those he saves.

How Hebrews 7:19 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
