Quick answer

About a month into the rebuilding, God's word comes again through Haggai. The Lord continues to speak to sustain the work He has begun.

Overview

This second oracle, dated to the seventh month, comes during the Feast of Tabernacles, a time recalling God's faithfulness in the wilderness. As discouragement threatens the workers, God renews His communication. The timing shows His care to strengthen His people precisely when their resolve might falter.

Christ at the center

The promise that the latter glory of the temple will exceed the former, and that God will shake the nations and bring 'the desire of all nations,' is fulfilled when Christ enters his temple.

How Haggai 2:1 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
