Quick answer

Haggai, called the Lord's messenger, delivers God's comforting promise: 'I am with you.' God meets repentance with His reassuring presence.

Overview

As soon as the people obey, God answers with the great covenant assurance of His abiding presence. This promise threads through Scripture, from Moses to Joshua, and finds its fullness in Immanuel, 'God with us' (Matthew 1:23). God's presence is the deepest encouragement for any work He calls His people to do.
