Quick answer

Noah and his family enter the ark because of the floodwaters. They take refuge in God's provided means of salvation.

Overview

Noah's household enters together, again showing God's gracious dealing through a faithful father. Their entering the ark is an act of faith in God's warning before the waters rise. This sheltering of the family pictures salvation found by entering the refuge God provides, ultimately fulfilled in union with Christ.

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
