Quick answer

God solemnly announces that he will bring a flood to destroy all flesh with the breath of life. The judgment is universal and certain.

Overview

The emphatic "I, even I" stresses that God is the personal author of this judgment, not blind fate. The flood targets all that has the breath of life, reversing creation's gift of life as a consequence of sin. This sober warning frames the ark as the only refuge, pointing forward to Christ as humanity's only safe shelter from final judgment.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
