Quick answer

God directs Noah to make a roof, a door in the side, and three decks. The design ensures the ark can shelter its occupants.

Overview

These features complete a functional vessel with light, access, and multiple levels for the many creatures and provisions. The single door in the side later becomes significant, for God himself will shut it, marking the line between salvation and judgment. The orderly design reflects a God of provision who plans the rescue in full.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
