Quick answer

Joseph honors Benjamin with five times the others' portion, and they feast merrily together. The generous favor also tests whether old jealousy remains.

Overview

By lavishing a fivefold portion on Benjamin, Joseph both delights in his brother and probes whether the others will resent favoritism as they once resented him. Their merriment together suggests envy no longer rules their hearts. The shared feast becomes a foretaste of full reconciliation, even as the final test still lies ahead.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
