Quick answer

Jacob challenges Laban to produce any stolen goods before witnesses, since his search of Jacob's belongings turned up nothing. It marks the turning point where Jacob, long mistreated, finally defends himself openly.

Overview

Having caught up with the fleeing Jacob and searched in vain for his stolen household gods, Laban is now put on the spot. Jacob invites both families to judge between them, appealing to public accountability rather than private grievance. After twenty years of silence under Laban's manipulation, Jacob speaks plainly, foreshadowing God's vindication of the mistreated.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
