Quick answer

Yahweh appears to Isaac, telling him not to fear and renewing the covenant blessing for Abraham's sake.

Overview

God identifies Himself as the God of Abraham and reaffirms His promises of presence, blessing, and many descendants. The reassurance 'don't be afraid, for I am with you' directly answers Isaac's fearfulness. The blessing rests on God's covenant with Abraham, the line through which Christ would come, showing that grace flows from God's promise, not human merit.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
