Quick answer

Isaac's servants dig and discover a well of fresh, flowing water.

Overview

Finding 'springing' (living) water in a dry land is a mark of God's provision for Isaac. The phrase recalls the biblical imagery of living water that points ahead to Christ, who offers the water of eternal life (John 4). Even Isaac's daily needs are met by a faithful, providing God.

Christ at the center

From the first promise that the seed of the woman would crush the serpent (3:15), through Abraham's blessing to all nations and Judah's coming ruler, Genesis sows every seed that flowers in Christ — the true offspring, the better Adam, the ram caught for Isaac.
