Quick answer

The list of items to be made begins with the tabernacle's structure: coverings, clasps, boards, bars, pillars, and sockets.

Overview

Moses inventories the framework and coverings of the tabernacle, the dwelling where God would meet His people. Each detail mattered because the whole structure was a divinely designed copy of heavenly realities. The tabernacle ultimately points to Christ, who 'tabernacled' among us, and to God's dwelling with His people (John 1:14; Hebrews 8:5).

Christ at the center

The Passover lamb whose blood turns away death, the exodus through the sea, the manna, the rock, and the tabernacle where God dwells with his people all foreshadow Jesus — our Passover, our redemption, the bread from heaven, and God-with-us in the flesh.

How Exodus 35:11 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
