Quick answer

In the Holy Place, the table was set on the north side and the lampstand opposite on the south. These furnishings stood before the veil in the outer chamber.

Overview

Outside the veil, the table of showbread and the golden lampstand faced each other in the Holy Place. Each had its appointed position in the ordered worship of God. The bread and the light pointed beyond themselves to Christ, the bread of life and the light of the world (John 6:35; 8:12).

Christ at the center

The Passover lamb whose blood turns away death, the exodus through the sea, the manna, the rock, and the tabernacle where God dwells with his people all foreshadow Jesus — our Passover, our redemption, the bread from heaven, and God-with-us in the flesh.

How Exodus 26:35 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
