Quick answer

If Israel listens and obeys, God will keep his covenant of steadfast love sworn to the fathers. God's faithfulness meets covenant obedience with blessing.

Overview

Moses links Israel's obedience to the ongoing experience of God's covenant blessing. God's commitment is sure, yet the people enjoy its fullness as they walk faithfully. This reflects the consistent biblical pattern that God's grace produces and is honored by obedient faith, ultimately realized in Christ.

Christ at the center

Moses promised a Prophet like himself to whom Israel must listen (18:15); Jesus is that Prophet, the one who keeps the covenant we broke and becomes the curse for us by hanging on a tree (Gal 3:13).
