Quick answer

Therefore Israel must keep all God's commandments so they will be strong to enter and possess the land. Obedience and inheritance are linked.

Overview

Moses urges full obedience as the path to strength and possession of Canaan. Faithfulness to God's word would equip them for the conquest ahead. The principle that God's people advance through trusting obedience finds its perfect pattern in Christ, who obeyed the Father fully.

Christ at the center

Moses promised a Prophet like himself to whom Israel must listen (18:15); Jesus is that Prophet, the one who keeps the covenant we broke and becomes the curse for us by hanging on a tree (Gal 3:13).
