Quick answer

Having calmed the Ephesian mob with a reasoned warning, the town clerk dismisses the rioting crowd. The riot ends without harm to the church.

Overview

This verse closes the account of the uproar stirred up by the silversmiths whose idol trade was threatened by the gospel. The pagan civic official, not the believers, restores order by appealing to law and the danger of being charged with rioting. God's providence often preserves His people through ordinary authorities and means, fulfilling the promise that the gospel advances even amid opposition.

Christ at the center

Acts is the risen Christ continuing his work by the Spirit through the church, as the apostles preach that there is salvation in no other name under heaven.

How Acts 19:41 points to him is part of the one story that runs through all Scripture — meet Jesus at the heart of the web, or follow a trail that traces him from Genesis to Revelation.
