Quick answer

God, who knows the heart, gave Gentiles the Holy Spirit just as He had given Him to Jews. God's gift of the Spirit proved He accepted Gentiles by faith.

Overview

Peter appeals to the heart-knowing God, who testified to the Gentiles' genuine faith by pouring out the Spirit on them (Acts 10:44-46). The Spirit's coming was God's own seal of approval, independent of circumcision or law-keeping. This divine testimony is decisive: God Himself received Gentiles as they were, through faith.

Christ at the center

Acts is the risen Christ continuing his work by the Spirit through the church, as the apostles preach that there is salvation in no other name under heaven.
