Quick answer

The king of Babylon executed Judah's leaders, and so Judah went into exile. The kingdom of Judah came to its end.

Overview

At Riblah the captured officials were put to death, and the narrator declares the climactic verdict: 'So Judah was carried away captive out of his land.' This is the decisive fulfillment of the prophets' long warnings that persistent covenant-breaking would end in exile. Yet even this judgment is not the final word, for God's promise of restoration and a coming Messiah remains, sustaining hope beyond the ruin.
